We are pleased to announce the approval of the Erasmus+ project EduZone – Inclusive Communication (AAC ZONE) under the KA220-SCH Cooperation Partnerships in School Education action. Phoenix Knowledge Wings is proud to participate as a project partner in this important European initiative, which addresses one of the most pressing challenges in contemporary education: inclusive communication for pupils with disabilities.
Project Rationale
Inclusive education remains a major challenge for education systems across Europe. Pupils with language disorders, autism spectrum conditions, cerebral palsy, and other communication-related disabilities often face significant barriers to learning, participation, and social integration in mainstream school environments.
Although Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) methods are internationally recognised as effective tools for supporting communication and learning, their implementation in everyday school practice is still limited. Key obstacles include:
- Lack of access to personalised and digital AAC resources
- Insufficient teacher and parent training
- Limited integration of AAC methodologies into national curricula and school strategies
The AAC ZONE project responds directly to these challenges by creating a digitalised, accessible, and scalable educational framework that supports pupils, teachers, therapists, and families.
Project Objectives
The overall aim of AAC ZONE is to strengthen inclusive education by integrating AAC methodologies with digital innovation. The project’s concrete objectives include:
- Developing an interactive digital platform based on AAC, designed for pupils with communication disabilities, teachers, therapists, and families
- Creating a structured AAC-based curriculum, adapted to the needs of students with special educational needs (SEN)
- Training teachers and parents in the effective use of AAC methods through training sessions and the exchange of good practices
- Supporting the integration of AAC into national curricula by developing an implementation guide and fostering collaboration with educational authorities
- Ensuring dissemination and sustainability, enabling long-term use and uptake of project results beyond the project lifetime
Key Activities and Innovative Solutions
The project places a strong emphasis on digital innovation and practical applicability. Planned activities include:
- Integration of digital technology into an accessible and interactive platform offering tailored educational resources
- Development of an AAC mobile application, facilitating communication for students with disabilities across different learning environments (school, home, therapy settings)
- Creation of an implementation guide based on real case studies from each partner country, providing a transferable and scalable model for other schools and educational institutions
- Continuous maintenance and updating of the digital platform beyond the end of the project to ensure long-term relevance and sustainability
Expected Impact
AAC ZONE is expected to generate a strong and measurable impact at multiple levels:
- Increased accessibility of education for pupils with communication disabilities
- Improved competencies of teachers, therapists, and parents in the use of AAC methods and digital tools
- Promotion of inclusive education practices at European level
- Direct support for over 1,000 students with disabilities and more than 500 teachers, therapists, and parents across partner countries
- Strengthened cooperation between schools, families, specialists, and educational authorities
